WWP School Partnerships

During the 2014-2015 school year WWP partnered with Communities in Schools Chicago (CICS) to conduct in-school and after-school arts-related programming for 6th-8th grade students at three different schools, providing services to nearly 100 area students.

WWP facilitated digital media sessions lasting between 6 to 10 weeks at Melody STEM, Milton Brunson and Willa Cather Elementary Schools. In completion, students created a number of short video projects that included topics such as anti-bullying, school news team, the role of sports in the lives of youth, and places in the world they would like to travel.

The sessions provided area students with exposure, guidance and support in areas of digital media, journalism and technology. These sessions also allowed students to develop new skills and interests while gaining hands-on experience in:

• News Literacy
• Digital Storytelling
• Video Editing
• Green Screen Technology

WWP has worked to develop strategic community partnerships that have enabled us to increase our impact in the neighborhoods we serve. Our list of program partners include:

Positive Youth Development – Our programs serve as a model for positive youth development that uses journalism and media as tools for individual and community transformation.

Access to Technology – While most area schools are experiencing reduced budgets and curriculum challenges, WWP brings new technology into the classrooms.

Student Voice – Through its various programs and activities, WWP students collectively create a student voice on issues affecting the community.

Skill Development – Students are able to gain new interests and develop both media and life skills
